KEVIN ANDREW CARTER

Kevin A. Carter was born to the late Mr. Lee A. and Mrs. Carrie E. Carter. He grew up in Shubuta, MS. He is the youngest of seven children. His first public education began in the Saint Mary Head Start of Shubuta, MS. He was educated in the Public School System of Quitman MS. and graduated in 1984. He is a 1986 graduate of Jones Community College in Ellisville, MS as a Certified Machinist. He played baseball for the Bobcats while attending Jones County Community College. In August 1986 he obtained employment with Hol-Mac Incorporation in Bay MS, a Certified Machinist where he was employed for over ten years. On June 09, 1990, he took the former Ms. Diane Satcher of Heidelberg, MS as his wife. He accepted his call to the ministry during a retreat in Louisville, MS. He delivered his first sermon on April 26, 1992 at his home church Sweet Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Shubuta, MS.
He was appointed to James Chapel and Bethel United Methodist Churches in the Quitman – Desoto area from 1992-1993. After Annual Conference he was appointed Senior Pastor to the Desoto – Quitman Circuit: Mount Levy, Mount Olive, Mount Zion, and Zion Chapel United Methodist Churches from 1993-1997. He was later appointed as Senior Pastor of St. Peter and Wesley Chapel United Methodist Churches of Meridian, MS. from 1997-2006. He was also appointed as Senior Pastor of Evergreen United Methodist Church of Brandon, MS. from 2006-2013.
In 2001 he graduated from the University of West Alabama in Livingston, AL with a Bachelor of Science. He majored in Industrial Technology and minored in Psychology. In Sept. 2002 he attended Emory University Graduate School. In May 2005 he graduated from Emory University of Atlanta, GA with a Master of Divinity Degree from Candler School of Theology in Pastoral Care. He was involved with a variety of community outreach programs and volunteered at local homeless shelters. Other places of studies include Meridian Community College in Meridian, MS and Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, MS. He is currently completing his Doctoral Degree at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson Mississippi. He is a member of AmeriCorps National Service where he tutored elementary students in the Lauderdale County Public School System. He was affiliated with several local community organizations in Meridian, MS and across the state. He served as President of the Meridian District Clergy. Pastor Carter is a member of Progress Lodge 246 in Shubuta, MS as a Master Mason. He is the founder of LWT Ministries (Living-Walking-Talking Right) where the wholeness of humanity, mind, body, and soul is expressed. He has traveled the United States and internationally spreading the Gospel as an Evangelist.

He is currently The Senior Pastor of The Canton United Methodist Church of Canton, MS. He is currently becoming an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. He serves as a faculty member of the Mississippi Course of Study on the campus of Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. He is a member of the Board of Directors for The Center for Ministry.He has served as the Chairperson of RIM (Register in Ministry) of Provisional Elders of the United Methodist Clergy in The Mississippi Conference.Pastor Carter serves on The East Jackson District Committe of Ministry. Pastor Carter serves on the Board of Ordain Ministry and Steering Committee of Mission Mississippi of Madison County. Pastor Carter serves on The School Health Advisory Council Board of The Canton Public Schools System in Canton Mississippi. Pastor Carter is presently The Chair of Communication Committee of The Mississippi Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Pastor serves on The Monitoring Task of Racial Inclusiveness of The Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Serving & Getting Involved
Witness Ministry
Through prayer, evangelism, and all forms of communication, we share stories of faith and the good news of Jesus Christ so that others will come to know and love the Lord.
The Witness Ministries Team leads others to witness God’s grace, love and power by helping all know and respond to the love of God in Christ.
Prison Ministry: visits and ministers in a variety of ways for the needs.
Commission on Evangelism: is one of the primary components of Witness Ministries, the job of this ministry is to reach out beyond the church and into the community for the purpose of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
Heavenly Prayer Ministry: meets on second Saturday of each month, prays for pastor on Sunday morning. Prays for all needs and crises daily for the world.
FOREVER-LIVING: seniors still thriving to live like never before.
Gardening Ministry: is responsible for the growth and maintenance of the flowers and plants during three seasons of the year on the grounds of the church.
Knitting Ministry: teaches knitting techniques to beginners and advanced students. Finished items are donated to various churches and community programs.
Communications Ministry: is responsible for website, social medial and other communication channels used to promote the church
Audio/Video Ministry: is responsible for the audio and video services of the church, including Sunday church services and special programs. Also, produce recorded messages (sermons).
Pictorial Documentary: Documents church history.
United Methodists Men: to help men grow in Christ, so others may know Christ.
United Methodist Women: to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Deepening the spiritual life of our members is at the heart of Canton United Methodist Nurture Ministries. These ministries provide the encouragement and nourishment each of us needs to grow in faith and to serve our nurture area. Nurture includes small group studies, prayer bands and lay visitation ministries which facilitate opportunities to grow in Christ by caring for and supporting one another.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship(UMYF)-This is our ministry for and to High School age persons. Their repertoire of activities includes service projects, fellowship activities and discussion of relevant issues.
WORSHIP SUPPORT TEAM
Worship works cooperatively with the Pastor and Music ministry leaders to provide the congregation with a worship service that is spirit-filled and assists in strengthening their relationship with God.
Acolytes – Youth are encouraged to become an Acolyte and join our young people who lead the procession of ministers into the sanctuary at the beginning of service.
Altar Guild Assures the beautification and appropriateness of the altar dressing.
Baptismal Steward Assists the pastor during the Baptism service and insures that the baptized members’ name is added to church records.
Communion Stewards Prepare the altar and assist in serving Communion to the congregation.
Lay Liturgists/Announcers Read scripture and announcements during service.
MEMBERSHIP CARE
Family Ministries- Addresses the concerns and conditions of families in our community in order to improve their quality of life and Christian growth.
Grief Support – Reaches out to persons in need of support and prayer during times of loss.
Lay Visitation- Cares for the spiritual needs of those who can no longer participate in regular church service and activities.
Stewardship – A comprehensive program of stewardship education, inspiration and action that teaches the meaning of Christian stewardship and provides opportunities for people to practice stewardship in their daily lives.
Vacation Bible School – one week summer Bible and arts retreat for all
